Last week we posted about paper finishes… but all our papers also come in different weights or ‘GSM’. From ‘thin paper’ to ‘thick card’ here is a quick guide to help you choose your paper weight…
GSM stands for ‘Grams per square meter’ and is the industry standard for describing the thickness of a paper stock. The higher the GSM, the heavier the paper.
80gsm – This is the most common weight for basic white copier paper – similar to what you may use for your home printer paper.
100-120gsm – A slightly higher quality paper. Great for corporate documents.
140-160gsm – A thick paper suitable for posters, flyers and leaflets. Economical choice. Can withstand a bit of wear and tear.
180-250gsm – Thin cardstock, great for higher quality flyers and sturdier leaflets.
300-350gsm – A nice card weight great for front covers, greetings cards and invitations.
400gsm – A very sturdy card and our standard weight for business cards.
When you aren’t sure what type of paper you want your job printed on our staff will always be happy to talk you through the options or show you paper samples from our swatch book. However, here is a quick summary of the main paper types we deal with here at Print On to help you understand the differences…
Our smooth (uncoated) papers have a soft finish and a very low sheen. They are understated, tactile and easy to write on.
There is a high sheen to gloss which can really lift prints, especially effective on images. Popular for marketing materials and posters.
Silk is a great all rounder and our personal favourite. It has a nice sheen and a quality feel. It is commonly used for leaflets, brochures and business cards.
It will be here before you know it so contact us now about printing your 2017 calendar and don’t miss out on important dates.
Whether you just want a single personalised wall calendar for the family, or multiple calendars for staff or customers we can help. For further information and prices contact firstname.lastname@example.org
